This course was developed by Michael Pollen, NTL President in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Only operators who have completed a basic water treatment course and passed the Water Treatment OIT exam, or who have a Level 1 Water Treatment license should attend this course.
The student will find that reviewing “Introduction to Alaska Small Water Systems” or a similar text in advance will be useful in recalling some basic material. The student should already have a working knowledge of math or should consider attending the 1-day Math and Hydraulics Review class in advance of this course.
Topics include conventional treatment (coagulation, flocculation, clarification, and filtration), disinfection, membrane separation, softening, fluoridation, iron and manganese treatment, and corrosion control. Throughout the course manual, examples from various Alaskan systems that have kindly allowed the use of their experiences are used to illustrate the topics being presented. The manual, Alaskan Water Treatment Systems, is available separately from NTL for $60 plus shipping and handling.
The State of Alaska as changed its pricing structure. All exams are $150.00. There is no longer an application fee.
